All true baseball fans know about the story of Bobby Thompson hitting the most famous home run in baseball history against Ralph Branca of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

But did you know that there was only one recording of the famous call? If it wasn’t for this man’s love of the game, I may have never known what it was like to be a NY Giants fan that day.

The passing of Thompson makes you start to realize how the golden era of baseball is beginning to close. There will always be memories, videos and books about baseball’s greatest moments, but when the actual heroes began to pass, that’s when you start to feel like you will never get closer than what you can see on tv or hear on a recording.

I hope you get that same feeling I had when I read this story. It reminds you of how important this game is to our country, especially between its fathers and sons.
