Every year I try to make my first post of the season a positive one. No one wants to talk about the bad deals or non-moves our team has made, so it ends up being full of “if they stay healthy” or “as long as everyone does their job” and you hope someone spends a couple of minutes reading it.

This year, no matter how many times you’ve heard it already, is different.

I tend to keep my cool because we’re all accustomed to the usual downfall by now, but I can’t ignore the numbers posted in March. In previous years, the Mets spring training record pretty much reflected their eventual outcome – sometimes even worse – and if the pattern is going to continue, this will be a the best season they’ve had in years.

Finishing first in the Grapefruit League guarantees nothing – but damn it’s cool to be there. Having a final differential of +58 (runs scored vs runs against) doesn’t mean anything – but damn it’s cool to read about. Listening to everyone talk about the Nationals being the team to beat and realizing they may be just drinking the kool-aid – yeah, that feels amazing!

Hey, it could be another season of heartache and a bunch of hope built up to be crashed down to Earth in one terrible slump come July, but for now I’m going to believe in the team. I’m going to look at Wilmer Flores at shortstop and believe he is going to grow into the job and learn how to be one of the better shortstops in the game. I’m going to believe Travis d’Arnaud will finally come out of his slumber and his RBIs will come to fruition. I’m going to believe David Wright will take the reigns as captain and have his best season to date. Granderson is finally comfortable in orange and blue, Duda is going to hit more than 30 this year, and Lagares has a new contract to prove.

Do I really need to get into the rotation? Nah, I think we all watched E:60 on Saturday night and know the answer to that.

The 2015 Mets are finally here. We’ve heard about this being the breakout year for a few seasons now and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Yankees are nothing to talk about, the rest of the NL East is in the gutter and teams like the Kansas City Royals prove that once you get into the postseason, anything can happen.

With that being said, you better buckle up Mets fans, it’s going to be a wild ride! Let’s Go Mets!
