Four players who appeared, at least briefly, for the Mets, were named to the 2017 Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot, as announced today.

Mike Cameron, who played for the Mets in 2004 and 2005, Jeff Kent (1992-95), Gary Sheffield (2009) and Billy Wagner (2006-09), are among the 34 players up for selection. The results of the BBWAA election will be announced on Jan. 18. Those receiving at least 75% of votes will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 30, 2017.

For Cameron, this marks the first appearance on the ballot. Kent is on for the fourth time; Sheffield for the third; and Wagner for the second.

Though none of the four had their most prominent years in blue and orange, Wagner had the most relative success in Queens, saving 101 games in three seasons (plus two games) with ERA’s well below 3.00 each year.

In all, 19 players are on the ballot for the first time, with 15 holdovers. The Mets have been well-represented lately, with Mike Piazza earning induction this past year, Pedro Martinez in 2015, Joe Torre and Tom Glavine in 2014 and Roberto Alomar in 2011.
