Logan Verrett is currently sporting a 0.69 ERA and so far has become a great replacement for Jacob deGrom while he was away with his newborn son Jaxson. Against the Phillies on Tuesday night, Verrett pitched six scoreless innings which lead to his first win of the season, but according to him that wasn’t the highlight of the night – being able to hit a double for his first big league hit was:

We’re up there and we’re not just gonna be up there as n easy out for the other team. If we can help the team, it’s obviously for the better. We take a lot of pride in it and we make it a competition between each other and it’s a lot of fun.

The pitching rotation has a competition between each other involving base hits and points. The hurler with the most points at the end of the month will win the “bacon”, but more so will help their cause by providing what seems to be a much needed offense boost for the Mets in April.

Verrett also added that the probability of Bartolo Colon hitting a home run this year is high and seeing what he’s done in batting practice gives him confidence that it’s going to happen. Looks like the Legend of Big Sexy may have its greatest chapter written in 2016.
